JOB SUMMARY:

The Patient Access Manager plans, organizes and directs the functions of registration, including outpatient, inpatient, emergency room, centralized scheduling, and insurance verification.

Job Specific:

1. Develops and implements departmental goals and objectives in conjunction with the hospital mission, strategic plans, and other identified needs, as well as planning, supervising, coordinating, and managing the activities of the department. (EF)

2. Develops, reviews, revises (as required), complies and enforces hospital and department policies and procedures. (EF)

3. Manages all admissions and discharge process for in-patient and out-patient services. (EF)

4. Oversees insurance verification, pre-registration, pre-certification/authorization, scheduling, point-of-service collections, pre-operative counseling (EF).

5. Develops, implements, and maintains revenue-generating strategies related to admissions and patient capacity. (EF)

6. Ensures that outpatient registrations, and inpatient admissions are screened for insurance coverage and have required pre-authorization (EF).

7. Stays apprised and complies with federal and state regulations governing capacity, billing, and reimbursement. (EF)

8. Coordinates point of services collections so that maximum financial reimbursement can be obtained (EF).

9. Manages, plans, assigns, and monitors assigned work. (EF)

10. Develops and/or approves staffing schedule to fit department needs. (EF)

11. Performs employee evaluations and responds to disciplinary actions as appropriate.

12. Coordinates staff selection and training process.

13. Responds to grievances and complaints from patients, employees, and medical staff in order to maintain positive customer relations (EF).

14. Conducts meeting and performs presentation as needed for quality improvement. (EF)

15. Determines resources (technology, equipment, supplies, space, etc.) necessary to carry out the functions of the department. (EF)

16. Assists in the preparation of the departments operating and capital budget and manages the operations of the department within the approved budget. (EF)

17. Communicates with peers and staff to promote efficient and effective operations within the hospital. (EF)

18. Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops and professional affiliations.

19. Participates in hospital committees, hospital sponsored programs and activities and civic community activities as requested.

20. Maintains necessary quality control programs.

    Minimum Requirements

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    Required: High School Diploma or Graduate Equivalent Degree (GED)

    Preferred: Associates Degree or 5+ years' experience in Patient Access Management
