expertise! Job Summary and Qualifications The Certified Surgical
Technician assists in patient care by preparation and performance.
If routine and delegated duties according to standards of care,
practice, policies and procedures of the Medical Center, and within
the scope of training/certification. Provides assistance in
emergency procedures as well as elective and scheduled procedures.
Participates in call schedule to assist the department in providing
24-hour coverage. What you will do in this role: Demonstrates
knowledge of applying surgical gloves using aseptic technique and
maintaining a sterile field. Demonstrates knowledge of preparing
for surgery by “pulling” the appropriate supplies and instruments
for the procedure. Understands and recognizes the different
surgical instruments and their applications. Displays appropriate
knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology to prepare and assist in
surgical procedures. Maintains a safe sterile field by a –
positioning sharps correctly b – labeling all medications on
sterile field c – understanding of electrocautery and other devices
that generate heat to prevent possible fires in the O.R. d –
Participating in a “timeout” with rest of the surgical team to
maintain patient safety. Demonstrates ability to appropriately set
up for a surgical procedure and follow protocol in the counting of
supplies/instruments to ensure no foreign object is left inside of
the patient. Understands the principles of and can competently
assist a surgeon during a procedure and possesses adequate
knowledge of the procedure itself. Displays the ability to
differentiate sutures and their applications. Demonstrates the
ability to close a surgical site (under physician supervision) with
appropriate suture. Demonstrates a teamwork approach in the care of
a patient during the perioperative phase. What qualifications you
will need: Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or military
equivalent training in the Surgical Technologist role is required.
Certification in Surgical Technology is Required. Current BCLS
certification from the American Heart Association required. 1 year
of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred. High School
Graduate / GED Corpus Christi Medical Center is a 630 bed
healthcare system of hospitals in Corpus Christi and the
